Mr. Monk and the Blue Flu Review

Hey hey all you fans of the OCD detective Monk, Lee Goldberg is back with the third installment in the series, and it's a classic!
The city is stalling on a benefits package for the ploice department, and the cops all come down with the blue flu. With a few unsolved murders, the city is desperate, and Adrian Monk is given back his badge for the duration as acting captain. If it was only him, that'd be fine, but the city has decided to bring several other ex-cops back to help; a nearly senile retiree, a hostile, violent and decidedly anti-social cop who abused his power, and a neurotic paranoid who spent too much time undercover and is now a conspiracy nut. These three make Monk look rather stable in comparison as they unite to solve the various homicides and find the links that put them together. There's twists a-plenty in this one, and Goldberg does his usual great job of letting us see much more of the characters than we could see in any episode.

They conveniently give you a few pages of the next book in the series at the end to whet your appetite, and it's already SERIOUSLY whetted (is that a word?) because the preview is rather a bland bit about Natalie's daughter in the ER getting a cast, and the nurse turns out to be.....Sharona!!!
